IAGG eTRIGGER training Program in Geriatrics and Gerontology

I am delighted to share an exciting professional development opportunity for those working in geriatric medicine and gerontology.
We are excited to announce the launch of the fourth cohort of the IAGG eTRIGGER training programme for the Africa, Middle East and Europe (AFMEE) region, commencing 23 October 2025.
About the Programme
The International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG), in partnership with the Federation of Geriatric Education (FGE) and the Swiss Health Science eTraining Foundation (HSeT), has developed this comprehensive online training programme specifically designed for healthcare professionals working with older adults.
Since its inception, over 500 participants from across the AFMEE region have completed this highly regarded programme, gaining valuable knowledge and skills in geriatric medicine and gerontology.
Who Should Apply?
- Physicians interested in ageing and care of older adults pursuing academic or clinical leadership positions
- Healthcare professionals from all disciplines involved in the care of older adults
- Medical students interested in geriatric medicine and gerontology who lack access to specialised instruction
- Experienced professionals engaged in community care and hospital management of older people
Programme Structure
- 12 monthly interactive live sessions (3 hours each, held on Thursday afternoons from 2:00–5:00 PM Paris time)
- Regional team activities on distinct geriatric topics
- Annotated papers and case studies as educational tools
- Knowledge assessments through quizzes designed by expert tutors
- Recorded sessions available for later viewing in case of absence
Comprehensive Curriculum
The programme covers twelve essential topics in geriatric medicine and gerontology:
- Session 1: 23 October 2025 – International Policies on Ageing

- Session 2: 20 November 2025 – Prevention Strategies in Older Adults
Learn evidence-based approaches to preventing illness and maintaining health in older populations.
- Session 3: 18 December 2025 – Muscle Health Matters Throughout Life
Understand the importance of muscle health, sarcopaenia, and strategies for maintaining physical function.
- Session 4: 22 January 2026 – Sensory Impairment as a Public Health Priority
Address vision and hearing loss as critical issues affecting quality of life in older adults.
- Session 5: 18 February 2026 – Cognitive Disorders
Assessment, diagnosis, and management of dementia and other cognitive conditions.
- Session 6: 19 March 2026 – Hot Topics in Gerontology and Geriatrics
Engage with cutting-edge research and emerging issues in the field.
- Session 7: 23 April 2026 – Gerontopharmacology and Medication Management
Master the complexities of prescribing and managing medications in older adults.
- Session 8: 21 May 2026 – Urinary Incontinence and Social Inclusion
Address this common but often overlooked condition and its impact on quality of life.
- Session 9: 25 June 2026 – Special Communication Issues in Old Age
Develop skills for effective communication with older patients and their families.
- Session 10: 23 July 2026 – Special Care Issues in Geriatric Medicine

- Session 11: 20 August 2026 – The Life Course Perspective on Mental Health
Understand mental health through the lens of lifelong development and ageing.

Certification
Upon successful completion of 10 out of 12 course quizzes, participants will earn a prestigious IAGG-World certificate of participation, representing 60 hours of training (36 hours of lectures plus personal self-learning). There is also the possibility to attend standalone sessions and receive a 4-hour certificate for individual sessions.
We are in the process of applying for CPD accreditation from HPCSA.

Fees and Scholarships
Fees are income-adjusted based on the average annual income in participants' countries, making this programme accessible to healthcare professionals worldwide:
- Standard Fees:
300 CHF for countries with mean annual income <1,500 CHF
600 CHF for countries with mean annual income of 1,500–13,000 CHF
1,200 CHF for countries with mean annual income >13,000 CHF
- Student Rates (with valid university or high school registration):
150 CHF for countries with mean annual income <1,500 CHF
300 CHF for countries with mean annual income of 1,500–13,000 CHF
600 CHF for countries with mean annual income >13,000 CHF

- Your application will be reviewed and validated by the eTRIGGER Board.
- Upon acceptance, complete payment through PayPal or credit card via the IAGG ASIO website.
