The AfriWon Young Doctors Movement, in collaboration with the WONCA Working Party on Quality and Patient Safety, is organizing this webinar to foster dialogue and share innovative approaches to improving healthcare quality and safety. The event aims to empower young doctors by providing a platform for discussion, learning, and sharing best practices.
Objectives
- Showcase innovative approaches and best practices in healthcare quality and patient safety implemented by young doctors.
- Provide a forum for exchanging ideas, strategies, and challenges in improving healthcare outcomes.
- Strengthen the network among young doctors across regions for future collaborations on quality and patient safety projects.

Speakers:
Prof. Jose M. Valderas, MD PhD MPH is Head of Family Medicine at the National University Health System, Director of the Centre for Research in Health Systems Performance at the National University of Singapore, Chair of the WONCA Working Party on Quality and Safety and current Editor in Chief of Frontiers in Health Services. Trained in Spain and the US, Prof. Valderas is a founding member of the Patient Safety Network at the University of Oxford, a Member of the Patient Safety Day WHO Steering Committee, and he has led the development of the OECD Paris Patient Survey, the WHO Patient Reported Experiences Measure for Primary Care, the Patient Reported Experiences & Outcomes of Patient Safety in Primary Care, the ICHOM Core Outcomes Set for Overall Adult Health, the WHO Technical Report on Patient Engagement for Safer Primary Care, and contributed to the significant body of work around the evidence based for the Quality & Outcomes Framework in England and to the WHO Vision for Primary Health Care in the XXI Century report that accompanied the 2018 Astana Declaration. He has authored over 100 publications specifically on quality and safety in Family Medicine, in addition to many others in other areas of health systems and clinical practice.
Dr. Andrée Rochfort is a medical doctor, a family physician and medical educator in Ireland. She is Director of Quality Improvement & the Doctors’ Health Program of the Irish College of General Practitioners. She is the President of the European Society for Quality and Safety in Family Medicine, EQUIP, the network for quality and safety in WONCA Europe www.qualityfamilymedicine.eu and leads its working groups in Professional Health and in Sustainable Healthcare. Andrée is a founding member of the Irish Society of Lifestyle Medicine, a founding member of the Sustainability Working Group of the Irish College of General Practitioners, and a founding member of the European Association for Physician Health. She has a Master’s degree in medical education, a Licentiate in occupational medicine and is certified in lifestyle medicine. She has a Professional Diploma in Leadership and Management from University College Dublin 2020, and she obtained a European Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine from ELMO www.eulm.org in 2021. She is an author of articles in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and a medical book editor
Dr Enwogo Ettang is a Specialist Family Physician (for the whole family, young and old) based in the Pietermaritzburg/Richmond/Hopewell area of Kwazulu Natal. He has more than 14 years of experience in the medical field. Dr Ettang's practice has a warm family environment as the surgery is part of his home. He is interested in Diabetes, Child Health, Men's health, Female Health, Chronic Disease Management, and Geriatrics (Elderly people). He also offers House calls, (Telehealth) telephonic and video consultations
Dr. Ines Sebastian: My name is Ines Sebastian, and I am on my last year as a resident in Family Medicine in Zaragoza (Spain).
Through these 4 years of residency, I have become more and more aware of the importance of Patient Safety to get a Quality Healthcare. This has taken me to participate in a study on Sick Doctors and how illness can impact our decisions, and in some projects in my Health Centre aiming to empower the patient on their own safety.
In my free time I love talking long walks in the countryside and dancing. I also enjoy travelling and discovering new places and cultures.
Dr. Armand Tiam is a medical doctor and healthcare improvement advocate. He is the founder and coordinator of IAQSAH, an international organization advancing healthcare quality and safety in Francophone Africa and Haiti. He previously led the IHI Open School chapter at the University of Antananarivo and served as a Global Chapter Leader and Coach for IHI, supporting emerging leaders, particularly across Africa, in building local capacity, leading improvement projects, and fostering learning communities. He recently earned a Specialized Master’s in Management of Healthcare and Social Organizations from Toulouse Business School, deepening his commitment to transforming healthcare through education and collaboration.
