Sir Ashley Bloomfield Brings Leadership to Rural WONCA 2026

Wisdom in Action

We are thrilled to announce that Sir Ashley Bloomfield, one of New Zealand’s most respected public health leaders, will be a keynote speaker at the 21st WONCA World Rural Health Conference, taking place 10–13 April 2026 in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Sir Ashley brings over 25 years of experience in public health, policy, and leadership, including his pivotal role as New Zealand’s Director-General of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now a professor at the University of Auckland, he continues to shape the future of public health through teaching, research, and global collaboration.

His keynote, “Embracing Simplicity in Complex Times: Leading Through Change and Uncertainty,” will explore how rural health leaders can navigate today’s volatile and complex world with clarity, compassion, and resilience.

This is a rare opportunity to hear from a leader who has guided a nation through crisis and continues to inspire with his vision for equitable, community-centered healthcare.
