Leadership & Influence
Supervision of the development and implementation of 122 national clinical pathways for 75 diseases has greatly promoted the standardization of care. Advocacy efforts have successfully integrated key chronic disease management, such as COPD, into China’s Basic Public Health Services, improving access and outcomes for over 100 million patients.
Clinical and Public Health Innovation
Dr. Chi pioneered the ‘contracted family doctor’ model, which links hospital general practitioners and community teams for holistic care delivery. Regular multidisciplinary case discussions have been implemented and initiatives have been launched to improve chronic disease management capabilities in over 20,000 primary care institutions across China, covering chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, vaccination. Ground-breaking models for pediatric primary care and digital chronic disease management have further expanded service reach and quality.
Academic Contributions
As principal investigator for 18 major research projects including a National Key Research & Development Program (total funding of approximately 50 million RMB), Her team’s work has directly shaped both national and international guidelines, especially in areas such as COPD and diabetes. She also piloted AI-powered diagnostic tools, wearable devices for chronic disease management in primary care settings. Efforts also include leading a national primary care research network connecting over 500 institutions, and organizing annual research training programs for general practitioners across China.
Education & Capacity Building
Ninety-seven graduate students and over 500 GP leaders have trained under Dr. Chi’s supervision. Led comprehensive curriculum reforms at undergraduate, postgraduate, and CME levels. She has been recognized with 12 national teaching awards, including the title of ‘National Top Ten General Practice Educator’.
