Conference host

The conference is hosted by the Botswana Association of Family Physicians (BAOFP).

BAOFP was formed in 2019 to promote evidence based primary care in Botswana, support research and continuing medical education, mentor family doctors and engage in community wellness projects.

The Association works closely with the University of Botswana and the Ministry of Health as family medicine grows across the country.

About the conference

The 9th WONCA Africa Region Conference will bring together family doctors, primary health care providers, educators, researchers and policymakers to focus on high quality community based care and planetary health across Africa. The programme will explore how family medicine can respond to health, social and climate challenges and support resilient, people centred primary health care.

Africa is a young and vibrant continent, with more than half of the population under 25 years of age. The conference will highlight youth and future leaders in primary health care, and encourage collaboration on research, education and advocacy that improves the health of both people and the planet.

Welcome from the co-chairs

Conference Co-chairs Dr Claire Brockbank and Prof Billy Tsima invite you to Botswana to discuss, debate and collaborate on “African solutions to African problems” in health and climate. After the conference, participants are encouraged to explore Botswana’s natural beauty and wildlife.

Scientific programme and abstracts

The scientific programme will reflect the conference theme and include topics such as planetary health, innovations in family medicine and primary health care, medical education, digital health and Artificial Intelligence, universal health coverage, community oriented primary care, and the care of young people, women and those with chronic conditions.
