My vision for the role as Member at Large is based on three principles: being useful, working together, and being efficient. I see these principles as applying to WONCA in relation to their members and to their stakeholders, and they also constitute a vision for Family Medicine in themselves. These are the same principles that I have successfully applied in leadership roles across different organizations and initiatives.
I will concentrate my efforts in WONCA's initiatives and activities that aim at delivering tangible benefits for family physicians worldwide, particularly in underserved and high-need areas, aligning directly with the needs of our members and the populations they serve, improving outcomes, and focusing consistently on adding practical value.
My commitment is also to the principle of collaboration. This will apply both within WONCA (in a way that considers all the opportunities for members’ involvement as well as their needs for being effectively engaged) and between WONCA and other organizations (in terms of strategic alliances and synergistic collaborations). Crucially it also applies to patients and professionals in everyday clinical practice and also as part of WONCA activities. This will ensure that we can amplify our collective voice for health advocacy and help us achieve outcomes that none of us could accomplish individually.
Last but not least, we need to be efficient in our use of resources to ensure the sustainability of WONCA efforts. We will need to follow appropriate and transparent approaches that ensure the operational and financial sustainability and minimise the environmental impact of WONCA. As with the other principles, this is also applicable to a vision of Family Medicine that minimizes the use of resources while alleviating burden of care for patients through judicious application of the best evidence for the benefits and harms of interventions and models of care.
In summary, I am committed to serving WONCA's community as helped by my international experience, dedication to family medicine, and proven ability to translate vision into action. I firmly believe that by consistently focusing on being useful, fostering collaboration, and promoting efficiency, we can significantly advance WONCA’s mission and deliver meaningful, sustainable outcomes for family physicians and the diverse populations we serve.
I would consider it a privilege to contribute further to WONCA's legacy and to collaborate closely with colleagues worldwide to address our challenges in global primary care and kindly ask you for your support.
