Vision and Key Priorities
As a family physician, global health advocate, and dedicated leader, I am honored to seek election as a Member-at-Large on the WONCA Executive Committee. My vision is rooted in the belief that strong primary care is the cornerstone of equitable, resilient, and sustainable health systems. If elected, I will champion a future where every family doctor—regardless of geography, resources, or circumstance—is empowered to deliver high-quality, culturally responsive care in their communities.
My leadership philosophy centers on equity, collaboration, and community. Having presented at past WONCA conferences, supported our Special Interest Group in Health Equity, and worked with global partners—including the WHO during the COVID-19 pandemic and different Academies of Family Medicine from around the world—I bring a global mindset and a deep respect of the evolving needs of our doctors.
If elected, my key priorities will include:
1. Advancing Family Medicine by Strengthening Primary Care Systems Globally
I will advocate for stronger investments in family medicine and primary care infrastructure—especially in under-resourced and rural areas. This includes supporting countries to adopt evidence-based models that elevate the role of family physicians in achieving Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.
2. Championing Health Equity and Social Justice
My work in disaster relief and community-based care has taught me that equity must be at the core of our policies and partnerships. I will amplify the voices of historically marginalized communities and advocate for training and systems that dismantle inequities and support culturally competent care.
3. Transforming WONCA by Supporting the Next Generation of Family Doctors
I will work to expand mentorship, leadership development, and global exchange opportunities for medical students and early-career doctors. Our future depends on nurturing young leaders who are passionate about primary care and global health.
4. Leveraging Innovation and Technology Thoughtfully
From telemedicine to digital health tools, innovation should enhance—not replace—the human relationship at the heart of family medicine. I will advocate for ethical, equitable, and evidence-informed use of technology that strengthens our connection with patients and each other. In addition, to ensure that WONCA has more margin for more mission, it is necessary to ensure that WONCA remains financially strong to weather any storms that lie ahead.
5. To have One Unified Voice by Fostering Global Collaboration Across Regions and Disciplines
WONCA’s strength lies in its diversity. I will promote inclusive governance, stronger collaboration with academic, governmental, and non-governmental stakeholders, and cross-regional learning that ensures we are not just reacting to crises but proactively shaping the future of health.
Ultimately, I believe in the power of family doctors to lead change—locally and globally. Together, we are more than individual clinicians.
Together, we are advocates, educators, leaders, and healers. We are more than one—we are WONCA.
Together, let us inspire one another, create change that matters, and lead together toward a healthier, more just world.
Inspire. Create. Lead.
I humbly ask for your support to serve and contribute meaningfully to our shared mission.
