Yaone Bogatsu

My name is Yaone Bogatsu, I am a family physician and currently working as a family medicine lecturer at the University of Botswana. I would like to be the next WONCA Young Doctor’s Movement Representative because of my passion in teaching and mentoring young family doctors.

The interest and passion for working with young doctors started in my intern year and grew during my residency in Family Medicine. Since then, I seek out ways to teach, mentor and supervise young doctors. I joined the AfriWon Renaissance’s AfriWon Research Collaboration mentorship program in 2022 as a mentee, in 2023 and early this year (2025) as a peer mentor. Working and collaborating with faculty mentors from different institutions and backgrounds has increased the desire to see more young family doctors mentored and supervised to realize their potential and create their own networks and collaborative research teams.

My hope for WONCA YDM over the next few years is to see more young doctors taking leadership roles as mentees of experienced family physicians and experts, and to see international collaborations of research within climate change and the ONE health initiative. To break barriers in publishing research by young family doctors and to bring the global family medicine network into one room.

Because family medicine is the future of healthcare, and together we can!
