Welcome message from Prof. dr. Zalika Klemenc Ketiš

Prof. dr. Zalika Klemenc Ketiš

Dear colleagues,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to WONCA Europe 2027 in Ljubljana.

The conference will focus on one of the defining challenges for family medicine and primary care: how to build sustainable strategies for the future. Across Europe, primary care is under growing pressure from demographic change, workforce shortages, environmental crises, technological disruption and changing expectations from society.

Sustainability is no longer optional. It is essential to the future of equitable health systems and to the ability of family doctors and primary care teams to provide high-quality care for their communities.

The scientific programme is built around a clear and connected logic, moving from the wider world in which health systems operate to the people and communities they serve:

  • Planet - rethinking primary care in the context of climate and environmental change
  • System - financing, policy and structural reform for sustainable care
  • Workforce - preparing, supporting and protecting the people who deliver care
  • Technology - keeping care human-centred in the age of artificial intelligence and digital health
  • Social contract - responsibilities, rights and redesign for a changing society

These themes reflect a systems-thinking approach. Sustainability must be addressed at planetary, structural, professional, technological and societal levels. The conference will create space for scientific dialogue that connects research with clinical practice, education and policy.

As Chair of the Scientific Committee, I am committed to a rigorous and transparent review process, high methodological standards and constructive exchange across the primary care community.

I invite colleagues to contribute their best work and to join us in shaping sustainable pathways for primary care in Europe.

I look forward to welcoming you to Ljubljana.
