AfriWON Renaissance: young researchers building the evidence base for African primary care

AfriWON Renaissance, the Young Doctors' Movement of the WONCA Africa Region, has published its July 2026 edition. It documents a growing continental network of family medicine trainees and early-career physicians learning to design, conduct and publish research together, now reaching around twenty African countries, with eight active research labs and monthly mentorship meetings. The edition also profiles the AfriWON Research Collaborative (ARC), a virtual mentorship programme running since 2018.

In "Leading Across Borders", Dr Onaopemipo Kolade writes candidly about sustaining a research team across many countries and time zones, concluding that research builds evidence, but collaborative research builds people. Dr Mteeve B. Amugune, adds a mentee's view. The edition is led by Dr Nantale Atangwa Peace, Research Theme Lead and Editor in Chief, with Dr Thando Agape Dube as Co-Editor, supported by the wider research subtheme team.
