Donald Li YDM Global Scholarship 2026

WONCA is committed to advancing equity in global health by helping young family doctors from low and middle income countries access key professional development opportunities, including the WONCA World Conference, WONCA regional conferences and the WONCA World Rural Health Conference.
We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the
Donald Li YDM Global Scholarship 2026.
Three successful applicants will each receive a USD 2,500 bursary to support attendance a regional or rural WONCA conference 2026, including conference registration, travel, visa costs, and accommodation.
The Donald Li YDM Global Scholarship aims to empower emerging healthcare professionals to join vital discussions, share knowledge, and strengthen their leadership in primary care.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must come from a low or middle income country as classified by the World Bank.
- Applicants must meet the Young Doctor definition under YDM operational guidelines (in family medicine training or in the first five years of practice).
- Applicants must be active in their regional Young Doctor Movement and provide a supporting letter from their regional YDM lead.
- Applicants should show enthusiasm and commitment to participating in the WONCA World Conference and contributing to family medicine and primary care development.
- Awardees must submit a 500-word report to the YDM Committee after the conference.
About Dr. Donald Li, GBS, JP
Dr. Donald Li is a specialist in Family Medicine with practices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai. A Past President of WONCA and of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, he has contributed to family medicine training and development in mainland China for over twenty years. He serves widely on public health, medical, and government bodies and holds honorary academic appointments at leading Hong Kong and mainland universities.
