Dr John Wynn-Jones is well known in WONCA circles and immediate past chair of the WONCA Working Party on Rural Practice. During the COVID-19 crisis he has been writing a daily 'Rural Miscellany' email with poems and resource ideas to help and divert us in this difficult time. He graciously agreed to write a guest column for WONCA News this month. "Can the arts flourish at a time of pestilence and are the two mutually exclusive?"

It with great sadness that we announce the death of one of my predecessors as WONCA President, Professor Michael Boland of Ireland. Michael was a true visionary, and an inspirational leader in family medicine, as witnessed by the many tributes already paid to him. Professor Michael Kidd, also a former WONCA President, pays formal tribute to Michael Boland.

Seven international research organisations (including WONCA) have come together to form a Primary Health Care Measurement and Implementation Research Consortium (RC). The consortium is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and will have its secretariat at the India office of The George Institute.

Awards of $5000 (USD) for the best oral presentation, and $2000 (USD) for the best poster presentation, are being generously provided by Dr Sadok Besrour from the Besrour Centre for Global Family Medicine at the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

WONCA President, Dr Donald Li has written to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine​ (ACRRM) to express his sadness and sympathy for colleagues in the wake the current devastation and loss of life in many parts of Australia as a result of fires.
