The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) have developed new guidance on mental health, human rights and legislation. The guidance provides critical information to enable policy makers, lawmakers and other stakeholders to formulate laws in line with international human rights standards including the UN CRPD. It also offers practical information on how to develop, implement and evaluate mental health-related legislation following a rights-based process.
Join Dr Tedros, Director-General, WHO and Mr. Volker Türk UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on Monday 9 October at 12:30 CEST for the launch of the WHO/OHCHR joint publication entitled ”Mental health, human rights and legislation: guidance and practice”. The event will be moderated by Mr. Daniel Bergner, a highly esteemed writer for The New York Times Magazine.
This is a unique opportunity to delve deeper into this transformative new guidance. An interactive dialogue, among persons with lived experience as well as UN officials and high-level government and civil society representatives will underscore why urgent action is needed and how the new WHO/OHCHR guidance has the potential to support person-centered, recovery oriented, rights-based law reform efforts in the area of mental health for countries everywhere.
The event, which will be conducted in English, will also include interpretation in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. International sign language and captioning will also be available.
