Proposed Amendment to WONCA Bylaws
Proposed Bylaws Amendment, Updated Policies, and New Election Procedures
WONCA has issued a formal notice to all Member Organizations and affiliated stakeholders regarding upcoming changes to its governing framework. This includes a proposed amendment to the Bylaws, updates to the Organizational Policies, and the adoption of a new Elections Policy. Member Organizations are encouraged to review these materials carefully and distribute them within their networks.
1. Proposed Amendment to the WONCA Bylaws
In line with our governing procedures, WONCA is providing the required three months’ notice of a proposed change to the Bylaws. This amendment will be presented for a vote during the upcoming Council meeting, taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, on 14 - 15 September 2025.
The documents related to the proposed Bylaws amendment include:
- A Word document showing proposed edits using tracked changes
- A PDF document outlining the proposed change and the rationale behind it
2. Updates to Organizational Policies
WONCA’s updated Organizational Policies, approved by the Executive Committee in April 2025, are now in effect. These updates include two key additions:
- Clause 8.3 introduces the new WONCA Elections Policy, which outlines expectations and standards of conduct for election candidates across WONCA and its regions.
- Clause 10.2.5.3 establishes Regional Organizational Equity Committees as part of WONCA’s governance structure.

3. New WONCA Elections Policy
The WONCA Executive Committee has formally adopted a new Elections Policy, now part of the Organization’s governance framework.
The WONCA Election Policy can be downloaded here.
In accordance with this policy, a WONCA Elections Committee has been established. Its members include three former WONCA presidents:
- Prof Rich Roberts
- Prof Amanda Howe
- Dr Donald Li
This committee will oversee election-related matters in line with the new policy.
