WONCA Accreditation: Setting Global Standards for Family Medicine

Since its launch in 2014, WONCA’s Accreditation Program has been a cornerstone of our mission to elevate the quality of family medicine worldwide. As a global leader in family medicine, WONCA provides comprehensive accreditation services to ensure education programs and clinics meet the highest international standards. These efforts not only recognize excellence but also drive continuous improvement and global recognition for healthcare organizations.

In 2024, WONCA expanded its accreditation offerings by relaunching the Assessment of Digital Systems and introducing the Development and Enhancement Program (DEP). These additions reflect a renewed commitment to helping clinics, educational institutions, and healthcare providers address the evolving challenges of family medicine, from leveraging technology to enhancing service delivery.

Haizhu Jiangnanzhongjie Community Health Centre

This primary care center achieved Practice Accreditation, demonstrating its commitment to high-quality patient care and aligning with international standards. With a robust focus on patient-centered practices, privacy, and integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the center is now recognized as a model for excellence in community healthcare.

2. Japanese Association for Primary Care, Japan

Japanese Association for Primary Care

WONCA accredited the association’s four-year postgraduate program, recognizing the program’s high standards and dedication to delivering outstanding training for future family doctors in Japan, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the healthcare needs of local communities. WONCA was particularly impressed by the program’s comprehensive approach to education, including strong mentorship from experienced faculty, the emphasis on well-structured work-based assessments, and the robust integration of community health elements into the curriculum.

3. Ping An Health, Shanghai, China

Ping An Health

WONCA partnered with Ping An Health on two major initiatives in 2024. First, Ping An’s digital health platform, Ping An Good Doctor (PAGD), underwent a detailed evaluation using WONCA’s Framework for the Assessment of Digital Systems. The assessment involved a comprehensive review of 111 elements across three key areas: scalability, comprehensiveness, and validity. PAGD demonstrated significant advancements since its initial evaluation in 2019, earning high scores for scalability and comprehensiveness, particularly for its AI-driven tools in chronic care management and its ability to integrate multidisciplinary services effectively.

Additionally, Ping An, seeking to support and enrich its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training Program, joined WONCA’s Development and Enhancement Program (DEP). WONCA experts are providing tailored support to improve the program’s curriculum design, teaching methods, and assessment strategies, ensuring it meets top global standards in providing training for healthcare providers across China.
