Shanghai, China, 29 October 2024 – The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) and Ping An Health have launched an ambitious three-year partnership, aiming to elevate both family medicine education and digital healthcare services across China. The collaboration has two pillars, WONCA’s Development and Enhancement Program (DEP) focuses on supporting Ping An’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training Program, while a separate assessment by WONCA has reviewed and recognized the progress of Ping An Good Doctor (PAGD), Ping An Health’s digital healthcare platform. Together, these efforts set a new standard for family medicine education and accessible digital health solutions.
Ping An Joins WONCA’s Development and Enhancement Program
The collaboration focuses on enhancing Ping An’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Training Program for healthcare providers across China. Through the DEP, WONCA experts will work closely with Ping An providing tailored support to improve educational structures like curriculum design, teaching methods, and assessment strategies to bring them up to top global standards.
WONCA CEO Dr. Harris Lygidakis commented on the partnership, saying, “WONCA is proud to collaborate with Ping An in this innovative journey. By aligning Ping An’s CPD Training Program with international best practices, we are ensuring high-quality care for patients and contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare delivery in China.
Mr Jack Hou of Ping An Healthcare added, “Ping An’s participation in the DEP underscores our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in family medicine education. By collaborating with WONCA, we’re gaining access to invaluable guidance that ensures our program remains at the forefront of medical education, improving healthcare outcomes across our network.”
WONCA Reports on the Assessment of Ping An’s Digital System
In a parallel effort, Ping An Good Doctor (PAGD), Ping An’s innovative digital health platform, recently underwent a detailed evaluation by WONCA. This assessment, which rated the platform’s scalability, comprehensiveness, and validity, showed significant advancements since its first evaluation in 2019. The evaluation rated the platform’s scalability, comprehensiveness, and validity, with scores of 3 out of 3 for scalability, 3 out of 3 for comprehensiveness, and 2 out of 3 for validity.
WONCA’s evaluation was led by Dr. Ana Luisa Neves (UK) and Prof. Nick Guldemond (Netherlands), with oversight from Quality Assurance expert Prof. Val Wass (UK).
Their findings emphasized PAGD’s strength through its AI-driven tools for diagnosis and chronic care management. The assessment highlighted the platform’s ability to scale effectively while aligning with international standards and improving inclusiveness. Additionally, its comprehensiveness was praised for offering holistic, multidisciplinary services, including prevention, face-to-face care, and accessibility for senior patients with co-morbidities.
Dr. Neves commented, “The collaboration with PAGD during this assessment has been excellent. The progress they have made in aligning with WONCA standards is impressive.”
Prof. Guldemond added, “Ping An Good Doctor’s advancements in scalability and comprehensiveness are commendable. This assessment highlights their dedication to improving digital healthcare delivery.”
The collaboration between WONCA and Ping An, across both family medicine education and digital health innovation, marks a significant step forward for the healthcare sector in China. By bringing together WONCA’s deep expertise in family medicine with Ping An’s innovative digital health capabilities, this partnership sets a new standard for other institutions worldwide.
About WONCA’s Assessment of Digital Systems
In 2019, WONCA conceptualized a framework for the assessment of digital systems in response to the question of how WONCA perceives good clinical practice through the eyes of General Practice/Family Medicine in the broader context of healthcare systems. In that respect, the values, principles and perceptions are a guideline for the evaluation of the services and technology which might support this.
The Assessment of Digital Systems is a comprehensive evaluation framework part of WONCA’s Accreditation Framework offering, which also comprises accreditation of post-graduate training programs, CPD and practices.
