World Health Day 2023

April, 2023

World Health Day is celebrated every year on April 7th to raise awareness about global health issues and promote healthier lifestyles. This year’s theme, "achieving Health For All" and marks the 75 anniversary of the World Health Organization. This year's campaign also calls for increased access to primary healthcare services and the reduction of health inequalities worldwide.

WONCA joins World Health Day as primary care is essential in achieving these goals!

Primary care is the first point of contact for patients seeking medical attention, and family doctors play a vital role in providing this service. They are uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care that is tailored to individual needs, taking into account not only physical health but also psychological and social factors. This approach is essential for promoting health equity, as it addresses the root causes of health disparities and ensures that all patients have access to quality care regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location.

This World Health Day, WONCA encourages governments, healthcare providers, and patients to prioritise primary care as a means of building a fairer, healthier world. By investing in primary care services and ensuring that they are accessible to all, we can improve health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and promote health equity. Family doctors have a critical role to play in this effort, and their contributions should be recognized and supported. By working together, we can create a world where everyone has access to the care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
