Call for applications for the 2026 Pierre Pluye International Awards in Family Medicine Education Scholarship, supported by the McGill Family Medicine Education Research Group.
The McGill Family Medicine Education Research (FMER) Group has issued a call for applications for the 2026 Pierre Pluye International Awards in Family Medicine Education Scholarship. WONCA is pleased to share this call with its global community of family doctors, educators and researchers.
The awards recognise original and influential contributions to research in family medicine education, with a particular focus on mixed methods research and mixed studies reviews. They honour the legacy of Dr Pierre Pluye, a founding member of the FMER Group, and aim to support promising researchers committed to advancing scholarship in this field worldwide.
Awards
Three academic awards are granted each year:
- Best MSc thesis
- Best PhD dissertation
- Best scholarly article
Eligibility and timeline
The submission period runs from 1 January to 31 March 2026. Applications are open to eligible candidates whose work meets the criteria outlined in the official call. Submissions may be made in English or French.
Awardees will be announced by mid-May 2026. Winners will receive a grant of CAD 1,000 for a PhD dissertation or scholarly article, or CAD 500 for an MSc thesis.
2025 awardees
The FMER Group has informed WONCA that the recipients of the 2025 Pierre Pluye Awards are, ex aequo, Dr Fadzilah Hanum Mohd Mydin and Mr Ziyue Wang, both awardees of the Best Paper of the Year.
Congratulations to Dr Fadzilah Hanum Mohd Mydin (Malaysia) who co-chairs WONCA's Special Interest Group on Family Violence.
Application procedure
All applications must be submitted by email to the Director of the McGill Family Medicine Education Research (FMER) Group, Dr Charo Rodriguez. Complete application files can be sent at any time during the submission period, from 1 January to 31 March 2026, in accordance with the requirements set out in the official call for applications.
