Description
Wai will explore the differing mindsets, mental models and expectations of primary care physicians vs hospital practitioners. The primary care and hospital based practitioners often work in silos, with different end points and outcome measures. While all healthcare professionals seek to improve patient care and avoid harm, there is a paucity of closed loop communication and effective primary-secondary care handover of information. The webinar shares examples of good practice in the primary-secondary care interface as well as errors which have occurred as an result of suboptimal handover of care and suggest toolkits to avoid such gaps. The session will end with a live Q&A session.
About the speaker
Mr Wai Yoong, MBBCh MD FRCOG TechCIEHF
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, London
Wai Yoong is a gynaecologist specialising in female incontinence and vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery) based at a London teaching hospital. He was past member of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) Patient Safety Committee and holds Technical Membership of Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. Wai is a trustee for Haemorrhage After Childbirth Foundation, a charity dedicated to teaching surgical and human factors skills on how to manage obstetric haemorrhage. His book "How to perform Operative Procedures in Obstetrics and Gynaecology" (Wiley-Blackwell) was selected as the Best Medical Book in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in BMA "Medical Book Awards" 2021. He will commence his role as Editor in Chief for TOG in June 2026.
