Support Gaza healthcare workers: WONCA backs MSF emergency fund

Support Gaza healthcare workers

Dear WONCA family,

Across Gaza, doctors and health workers continue to care for their patients in conditions most of us cannot begin to imagine. Hospitals and clinics have been destroyed. Clean water and essential medicines are running out. Sanitation systems have collapsed. Many have been displaced. Many have lost family members. Some have been killed.

Still, care continues.

These are our colleagues. They are working without the systems that most of us rely on. Without the protections that health workers should be able to expect. And often, without rest or safety. The determination to continue — to stay with patients, to deliver care, to hold the line — is something we cannot look away from.

WONCA is supporting Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in raising funds for their Gaza Emergency Regional Fund, which supports ongoing medical operations in Gaza and surrounding countries affected by the conflict. These efforts are carried out by MSF teams including Palestinian health professionals under extraordinary pressure.

MSF continues to deliver essential care in Gaza, including emergency surgeries, trauma care, maternal health services, and psychological support. These interventions are delivered in partnership with Palestinian doctors and nurses, who are working with extraordinary dedication in the face of overwhelming need. Your donation helps sustain this direct, on-the-ground medical work.

We are inviting our Member Organisations and individual colleagues to take part in this effort:

Denying people access to adequate food, clean water, and medical supplies is a violation of international humanitarian law and a direct assault on human dignity. The destruction of health facilities, the killing and detention of health workers, and the obstruction of care are not accidents of war — they are deliberate attacks on the medical mission. Those responsible must be held accountable.

WONCA has condemned these violations and called for the immediate and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, the protection of health workers and patients, and accountability for those who target healthcare. The provision of impartial medical care is not optional. It is a legal and moral obligation that transcends borders, politics, and conflict.

We ask you to support this effort — and to stand with those still providing care.
